Geography

The federal constitutional republic of the United States of Mexico is situated in the southern part of North America. Its neighboring countries are the United States, Guatemala and Belize. Its marine borders are with the Pacific Ocean, The Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Mexico is among the biggest countries in the world in terms of size. Its 111-million population makes it among the most populous states in the world as well. The federate state consists of thirty one states and one capital district. The capital of the country Mexico City is the third most heavily populated city in the world.

Climate

Mexico has a very diverse climate. The Tropic of Cancer splits the country into two parts. The southern one has typical tropical weather with average yearly temperatures of about 26 °C and very small temperature fluctuations. In these parts hurricanes are a common appearance. In the north the temperatures are also high during the summer season but with cooler weather in the winter. The northern part of the country is cover by deserts that experience very high and low temperatures.

Language and Religion

There is no official constitutional language in Mexico as such. More than 97% of the population speaks Spanish with about 5% speak an indigenous language as well. There is no official religion as well. Approximately 80% are Roman Catholics and 6% Protestant.

Cuisine
